Civil matter against Lakers' Brown still in limbo

LOS ANGELES -- The agent for Lakers reserve guard Shannon Brown said Thursday that paperwork has not been filed after Brown was served in June with a notice of intent to file a civil suit by a woman alleging a sexual assault.
In June, Mark Bartelstein told ESPN that a woman had served Brown with papers notifying him that she was filing the case. After reviewing the papers, Bartelstein said he had been misinformed, and the letter served to his client before a playoff game against the Denver Nuggets was actually an "intent" to file a document rather than the civil suit itself.
John Clune, the attorney for the accuser, had no comment when reached Thursday. Colorado has a six-year statute on filing of civil suits.
Bartelstein had said the suit stemmed from an incident when Brown was a member of the Charlotte Bobcats, who played in Denver on Jan. 30.
Brown, who averaged 4.9 points a game in 21 playoff games during the Lakers' run to this year's NBA championship, had been traded to the Lakers on Feb. 7, and the Lakers announced his re-signing July 8. No terms were released.

This alleged allegation occurred while Brown was still a Bobcat. Furthermore, the D.A. and the local law enforcement agents investigating the allegations have concluded that no charges should be filed because of lack of evidence and inconsistencies in the alleged victim’s statements.
