Report: Saints QB Brees' mother dies at 59

METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been excused from training camp for an undisclosed family matter.
Saints head coach Sean Payton declined to give any more details on Saturday and said he was unsure when the quarterback would return to the club.
The Austin American-Statesman reported Saturday that Brees' mother, Mina Brees, died at the age of 59. The paper quoted Marty Akins, Brees' brother, as saying he was told Friday morning that Brees died in Colorado, where she was visiting her son Reid. Akins said he was unaware of her cause of death.
"It's my understanding that she was at her girlfriend's house," Akins was quoted by the paper as saying. "That's all I know. I just know that she passed away, and I loved her very much.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Drew Brees and his family.
